Viktor Fischer found his scoring touch four minutes from time to earn Denmark a 3-2 win in a pulsating UEFA European Under-17 Championship Group A game against hosts Serbia.

Substitute Ognen Ožegović looked to have given Serbia a share of the points early in the second period. Yet Fischer atoned for some earlier missed chances when he latched on to Mads Aaquist's trundling ball across the box; his low shot gave goalkeeper Nikola Stošić no chance.

Denmark looked dangerous even after Lucas Andersen was taken off following a 17th-minute collision with a goalpost, and Stošić twice made fine saves to deny Fischer. It was a shock, then, when Serbia went ahead after the half-hour as Vojno Ješić sent a splendid free-kick into the top right-hand corner of Oliver Korch's net.

Thomas Frank's side responded almost immediately when Andersen's replacement Danny Amankwaa nodded back for Nicola Johannesen to slam in from close range. Amankwaa then helped put his side ahead on 39 minutes when his cut-back from the left was directed into the empty net by the retreating Bojan Nastić with Stošić already committed.

Ognen Popadić had two terrific strikes off target at the start of the second half as Serbia came on strong. Substitute Ožegović levelled at the Karadjordje Stadium, finding the target after Dejan Meleg and Ješić had both had shots blocked by the increasingly harassed Danish defence.

Patrick Olsen had a shot deflected just wide and Kenneth Zohore snatched at an opening with just Stošić to beat. Fischer crashed another effort into the side netting when a pass might have been a better option, but had time to atone for that error.
