Faroe Islands seek to turn the tables on Estonia

The Faroe Islands lost 2-1 to Estonia in the first UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier back on 11 August and will look to exact revenge in their reverse Group C fixture.

• Added-time goals from Kaimar Saag and Raio Piiroja helped Estonia come from a goal down in Tallinn, Jóan Edmundsson having scored the first goal on the road to Poland and Ukraine after 28 minutes.

• The Faroe Islands' record in six fixtures against Estonia reads W1 D1 L4; at home it is W0 D0 L1.

• Their meetings prior to this campaign comprise three friendlies and a pair of UEFA EURO 2000 qualifiers. The Baltic side won both of the competitive games without conceding, triumphing 5-0 in Tallinn on 4 June 1998 and 2-0 in Torshavn 15 months later.

• Martin Reim scored in both games. The 5-0 victory remains both Estonia's biggest competitive win and their most emphatic home success since they became FIFA members.

• Estonia matched that margin of victory in a 6-1 away friendly defeat of Andorra in 1996, while their biggest win remains a 6-0 success away to  Lithuania in 1928.

• In terms of friendlies between these teams, honours are even. Their very first meeting, in Pyla, Cyprus, on 24 February 1996 ended in a 2-2 draw. The Faroe Islands won a rare away game in Tartu on 6 August the following year, prevailing 2-0.

• That result is one of only three away victories by a two-goal margin they have achieved against European opponents; the others were a 3-1 win against San Marino in October 1995 and a 2-0 defeat of Luxembourg in March 2001.

• Estonia came out on top when the sides met in their third friendly in Tallinn on 4 June 2008, racing into a 3-0 half-time lead before holding on for a 4-3 win after the visitors rallied. That is the only time the Faroes have scored three goals in an international and still lost.
