FC Bayern München's hopes of putting their UEFA Champions League toils behind them against FC Schalke 04 were foiled in a 1-1 draw that allowed champions VfL Wolfsburg to climb above them by winning 2-1 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Matip leveller
Felled twice by FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the space of two weeks and threatened by elimination in Group A, Louis van Gaal's side now find themselves as low as eighth in the 18-team Bundesliga after Joel Matip earned fourth-placed Schalke a share of the spoils in Bavaria. His equaliser two minutes before the break cancelled out Daniel Van Buyten's 31st-minute opener, with Bayern now trailing Bayer 04 Leverkusen by six points following the leaders' sparkling 4-0 success against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday. Stefan Kiessling, Stefan Reinartz and Toni Kroos all registered for Leverkusen in the first eleven minutes, with Lars Bender then scoring four minutes from time.

Grafite goal
Bayern's fifth stalemate in 12 league outings allowed Wolfsburg to jump up to fifth with their worthy triumph at Hoffenheim, who opened the scoring through Vedad Ibišević on 23 minutes, only for Zvjezdan Misimović to restore parity seven minutes after half-time before Grafite buried the winner five minutes after that. 1. FSV Mainz 05 also climbed the standings, up to sixth, courtesy of their 1-0 home victory over struggling 1. FC Nürnberg. Elsewhere, second-bottom VfL Bochum 1848 succumbed 2-1 at home against SC Freiburg, while neither VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach nor VfB Stuttgart were able to secure the result they wanted as they drew 0-0.
