Hoffenheim edge within striking distance
Sunday 1 November 2009TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are three points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen in fifth thanks to a 1-0 victory at SC Freiburg on a day that saw VfL Bochum 1848 become further entrenched in the relegation zone.
Maicosuel winner
With Leverkusen, Werder Bremen and FC Bayern München all drawing on Saturday and Hamburger SV losing, Hoffenheim headed south in the knowledge that victory would propel them up the table. Brazilian striker Maicosuel provided the one decisive moment needed six minutes before the break, curling beyond Simon Pouplin from the edge of the penalty area. Eintracht Frankfurt are four points adrift of Hoffenheim in ninth following their 2-1 home win against Bochum, who stay one place off the bottom. Goals from Caio (14) and Maik Franz (53) gave Eintracht the three points despite the latter also turning into his own net on 25 minutes. Bochum's Shinji Ono was sent off ten minutes from time.
