Wroclaw
Tuesday 4 September 2007Wroclaw, with approximately 630,000 inhabitants, is the second largest financial centre in Poland after Warsaw, and also one of the oldest cities in the country. Located near the border with the Czech Republic, at the foot of the Sudeten on the Oder river, Wroclaw was built on 12 islands connected by 112 bridges. One of its leading tourist attractions is the Racławicka Panorama – a gigantic rotunda housing a panoramic painting with dimensions of 120x15 metres depicting the battle of Racławice which was fought on 4 April 1794. Śląsk Wrocław, the city's largest football club, won the Polish Cup for the first time in 1976 and followed it up with a maiden league title the following season.
