Poznan
Tuesday 4 September 2007One of the oldest cities in Poland, and therefore an important historical centre, Poznan is located by the Warta river in the west of the country and has a population approaching 580,000. Its main fields of business are industry, education and trade. Every year many cultural and sporting events take place in the city, including the International Theatre Festival 'Malta', the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Contest or the World Cup in kayaking and rowing. The international Poznan Fairs have been a hallmark for 80 years, as have Lech Poznań who enjoyed their most successful period in the early 1980s when winning back-to-back titles and two Polish Cups in three seasons.
