UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™ runners-up Norway returned to competitive action by comprehensively defeating Ukraine at the Åråsen stadium in Lillestrom
Mellgren class
Dagny Mellgren put the home team ahead on 28 minutes only to see Tetyana Verezoubova reply for Ukraine a minute before half-time. Central defender Marit Fiane Christensen restored Norway's lead (47) before Mellgren fired in a 54th-minute penalty to further settle nerves. Striker Lise Klaveness added gloss to the scoreline soon after, sending a warning out to Norway's Group 1 rivals in the process.
Rivals begin
Italy are likely to provide the stiffest opposition to Bjarne Berntsen's outfit, although the Norwegians will hope to have six points by the time they welcome the Azzurre on 29 October.
